A surprise party and an old pick up truck!

Hello friends!  I hope you are all doing well!!!

Today I thought I'd share something different I made a couple weeks ago for my Son in Law, who turned 40 on May 15. His parents drove from TX to surprise him and we had a "Big 40" party for him.  Why the truck you might ask?  Well, if you've followed my blog for long you remember when my grandson had his 16th birthday in Jan. I shared some photos of an old 1949 GMC Pickup truck that my Son in Law and my Grandson have been restoring for the past year+.  They have put so much work in to it and it is coming a long beautifully!  It is now painted blue, has a nice shiny chrome bumper, and it's really starting to take shape!  So what else could I do for my Son in Law?  However.... the big 40 is not something to be ignored either!  So I went on the internet and did a search for 49 GMC pickup photos.  I wanted a front shot and a back shot, because I had a little idea of how I wanted to fill the "bed" of the truck.  So when I found these pictures... I was super happy.  I computer generated the sentiments in Word, and the play on words with the "brakes" is because they just made the decision to not upgrade the brakes but just go with the old type.  They live at the top of a pretty good hill and I have been stressing over whether the brakes will hold! LOL!  Anyway... I then  filled the bed of the truck with 40... yes... count them... candles!  These cute little candles are die cuts from Memory Box.  There are 3 small and 3 larger in the set so every pass through your die cut machine cuts 6 at a time.  BIG help when needing 40!  I altered colors that would go with the papers I chose and cut a couple slits in the bed of the truck, tucking in candles every which way.  I adhered to the back and adhered the truck image to the card.  I think he was pretty impressed that I actually found the right truck!

So... while I was at their house... I took some photos with my iphone to show you the progress on their truck.  Sorry if the quality isn't great but... here are the shots I took when they first started the truck, and then what it looks like now:

The condition it was in when they bought it.  Does this even look like a truck?

This is the cab  laying on it's back!

And now... here it is with it's pretty blue pain and bumper, and one headlight! :)

They are now reassembling the engine which has been completely rebuilt.  Then the bed will go on and lots of interior work... but it really is coming along well!  This has been a BIG project, but a wonderful time of bonding and working together for my Grandson and his dad.  We are proud of all the hours of hard work they've put in to this, and we know there will be special memories that last a lifetime!

Thanks so much for taking a peek!

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.

Blessings,

Praying for You

Hello everyone!

I finally got to play in an SCS Challenge today! Roxi picked a great sketch today and I had purchased this image several weeks ago and had not gotten to use it yet. When I saw the sketch, I knew today was the day!

I only wish I could have gotten a better photo of it! It's raining and even with my Ott light I'm not capturing this picture well. Sorry... if you have any great secrets, please let me know!

This tree image is from Memory Box, as is the DP. The DP is from a pack called Brandywine. I am in love with these new Memory Box 6 x 6 packs! I have almost all of them now!

The sentiment is from Clear Dollar Stamps and is stamped onto Aquarello Watercolor paper, punched with the SU! Word Punch and to make the mat for it I used my "ancient" Magic Matter. It basically is a set of little circles that have a hole in the middle for your pencil, and a groove on the side for your cs. You hug it to the original shape and trace a line at whatever size you choose, then hand cut it out. It's what we used back in the days before all these new wonderful tools because available like Nesties, die cuts of all sorts, etc. Anyhoo... the card went together quickly. I used a green sheet of dp from the same pack and ran it through the bug with the floral screen folder, punched the one edge of the mat for my main image with a Martha Stewart Punch, and matted everything in Mellow Moss.

The main image is stamped with Archival Jet Black onto Watercolor Paper and watercolored using ink in the lids and a couple of SU! Markers. The photo doesn't show it but the little birds do have pinkish breasts... like bluebirds do... but they are tiny and I guess the photo just can't pick that up. Also, there are Cotton Candy Stickles on the flowers in the tree. The ribbon is the slipperiest sheer I've ever worked with! LOL! I fiddled with this for too long. I think I need to order one of Sharon's perfect bow makers!!!

Well... I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday!

Please remember that tomorrow is the National Day of Prayer! There will be many places where you can go to join with others in prayer and if there ever was a need for prayer for our country and the world around us.... it is now!!! Many Churches will have prayer rooms open, prayer meetings scheduled, even 24 hour opportunities for you to join in corporate prayer. I urge you to spend some time on your knees tomorrow! God is in His Holy Temple and He longs for us to come to Him in Prayer... He's reaching down to us... will you reach up to Him?

Multi-challenge card with an Asian twist

Hello everyone!

Today's Color Challenge on SCS (CC211) was to use Pretty in Pink, Kiwi Kiss (or Old Olive) and Baja Breeze. I also wanted to play in Julee's Mojo Monday Challenge, mojo79, and Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenge FTTC8.... to use embossing. There's a link to both the Mojo Monday and Timeless Tuesday's Challenges on my sidebar, so come join the fun!

I am soooo excited! I won a Verve set of my choice during the project parade! Whahoo!!! I LOVE Verve stamps! I cannot wait to get my set! If you haven't played, check it out here: http://vervestamps.blogspot.com/ There's still time to join in the project parade and have a chance to win!

So today, even though it's dreary outside, and my body hurts, I'm doing the happy dance! I had fun making this card. I recently bought this stamp by Memory Box along with a 6 x 6 paper stack called Sugar Drop. Memory Box sure has come out with some great papers lately! I loved this pack and got a couple others which I'm sure you'll be seeing shortly. Anyway, I stamped the image with Stazon Timber Brown, on hot press watercolor paper (LOVE this stuff... thanks for the tip Dawn). I used SU! markers in Old Olive and Pretty in Pink, and a paint brush to color these tiny flowers and leaves. I outlined the flowers and centers with my Stardust Gelly Roll Pen for some glitter, which totally does not show up in my photo... but it's there. I LOVE that pen!!!

The sketch I used today was Julee's Mojo Monday sketch. For the Flourishes Tues. challenge, to use embossing, I used my cuttlebug to emboss these leaves, which have an Asian flare, and I thought they set off my image well. I matted everything on a Baja Breeze base. I used a Martha Stewart edge punch for my dp panel mat, and SU! Pretty in Pink Ribbon. The image itself is on dimensionals. It's a simple card, but I love how it turned out.

Did I mention I WON a free VERVE set? Wahoo!!! I guess you can tell I'm excited!

I hope you have a wonderful day, and thanks for taking a peek at my blog! Come back soon, and if you haven't already, please sign my guest book near the bottom of the page!
