Think on these things!

Think-on-these-things

Happy Sunday everyone! With Sunday comes another Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge! Today our hostess is my dear friend and Layers of Color DT Sister, Linda Lucas. The Scripture Linda has chosen for this week is:

Philipians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

I love this verse! The Bible is so full of really practical instruction! We all have just so many hours in a day and we make choices every day how we're going to use those hours and days. I think we all know people who just seem to always focus on the negative... and for the most part they are just miserable most of the time, and can be miserable to be with too! Lol! Then there are other people in our lives who may suffer terribly with pain or other issues, yet their attitudes are so positive and it's uplifting just to be with them! I think at the heart of this difference is what we choose to focus our thoughts on. The Bible says that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he, and that's so true! It's hard sometimes not to get wrapped up in all the bad stuff going on around us, and it's hard not to focus on our own selves much of the time, but when we think about God and all He has done for us... when we focus our minds on things that are of eternal value, that really matters in life, and think of the good things.... not only are we more pleasant for others to be around, but we are happier and more effective ourselves!

Linda's challenge this week is:
Make either an all white or an all cream card, a monochrome in pure tones.

Let me just say this challenge about killed me!!! LOL! I really struggled with this one! I used Gina K Pure Luxury White and Ivory for my monochrome colors. My tag is a sneak peek at the Nov 1 release from Our Daily Bread designs.... be sure to do the hop tomorrow because the prizes are GREAT and you just might win! Anyway.... the holly tag is from one of the new sets as is the die cut that perfectly cut it out! I embossed in gold and added a sentiment from the ODBD set Peace and Joy. I also stamped the large and small snowflakes from that set, embossing the small one with gold and cutting it out with the die cut custom made for that set and layering it on a Spellbinder's Create a Flake Set. For my mat layer, I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder from the Winter Wonderland bundle and then embossed the pattern in white. I stamped the large snowflake from Peace and Joy in the upper right corner and embossed in white. I also used a VersaMark pen to add dots of white embossing all over the mat. Somehow I liked the contrast of the pure white on the ivory. I figured a little gold fiber couldn't hurt much and added a white May Arts ribbon. Like I said... this one was hard!!! In the end, I actually like how it came out, though I cannot get a photo that does it justice! LOL!

Sneak Peek Poinsettia Tag

SC304-poinsettia-tag-sneak
Hello everyone!
Today I'm so excited to be sharing a sneak peek with your of one of the fantastic new sets to be released Nov 1 by Our Daily Bread designs! This is the Poinsettia Tag set and also the Die Cut custom made for these tags (oops, did I spill the beans with that little plural? LOL) Anyway... the dies are a wonderful way to make a tedious job short! I plan on making ALL my tags this Christmas, and as you can see, I made this card using a tag for the focal point. I was going for a tag within a tag look for this one. I used today's SCS Sketch challenge and it just kind of developed as I went. Ever have that happen?

My tag is stamped with Memento and colored with Copics, and I did stamp a second so I could cut out and pop up some of the poinsettia petals. I highlighted with a Spica yellow pen for the centers and a gold gel pen for the vines. I matted my tag and mounted inside a Nellies Multi Scalloped frame. The embossed panel is Sizzix Sugar and sponged with T Holtz Fired Brick. I added an EK Success bracket punched piece to create the effect of the outter envelope, some sheer olive ribbon and pearls from ACMoore. The base is Bazzill and the DP is BasicGrey Jovial.

Hope you enjoyed the sneak peek! Be sure to be back Nov. 1 for the ODBD New Release Blog Hop!

I am adding this to the following challenges:

SSIC Missing You

Happy Sunday everyone! With Sunday comes another Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge! Today our hostess is my dear friend Chris. Chris has chosen what I have shared before is one of my life verses: Ps. 73:26

"My health may fail, My spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever."

Chris is challenging us to use a pink ribbon and predominantly pink on our card in honor of October being breast cancer awareness month.

I think we all have been touched in some way by this terrible disease. I am dedicating this to my own sister who died at 44 with cancer, and many of you have lost loved ones way sooner than seemed right. It's hard to understand the whys of things like this, but I know for myself, God gave me this verse many years ago when I was first dealing with some health problems. I ran to God's Word for answers, comfort and direction, and of course I prayed, and prayed a lot. The answer was not the one I was hoping to hear, but God was so gracious to me, and answered me much like He did Paul, when he asked three times for healing. God's answer was "my grace is sufficient for you". I have found that to be true in my own life as well! This verse reminded me that while we all think our health is about the most important thing in our lives.... still, our earthly lives here are like a vapor compared to eternity and what we have waiting for us! I had to learn to yield my anxiety about my health.... what was the worst that could happen to me? I might die? But Paul tells us that for me to live is to live for Christ, but to die... that's gain! So what do I have to fear? God has comforted me and taught me that He has a plan and loves me dearly, and that even if ill or in pain, He still can use me. When ever He calls me to heaven, that pain and illness will forever be forgotten and my entire focus will be on Christ, The One who died for me and is mine forever! I do hope you have this assurance and the joy, freedom from anxiety and hope that it gives!

My card is made with this month's Our Daily Bread designs new release "Missing You". It's such a pretty image and I water colored this one, cutting it with a Spellbinder's Label 17 and embossing it. I used the out of the box technique for the bird house. This new Prima paper is so luscious I didn't want to cover it up so I used my craft blade and cut a few whisps of the design to extend over my design instead of being buried behind it. My sentiment is stamped on a scrap of white and I used an EK Success corner punch to punch the pennant end. I added some shimmer with a clear glitter pen and also highlighted with a white Sharpie paint pen. A little Glimmer Mist and it's ready to go.

Card Details: Stamps: Our Daily Bread designs Missing You Ink: Archival Jet Black Paper: Aquarella 140 lb water color paper, SU! Regal Rose base, Textured GTD by Momenta, DP is Prima Fairy Flora and Annalee Accessories: EK Success corner punch to punch the end of the pennant, Grossgrain ribbon from Michaels, Button from stash, Dragonfly Brad from HL, SU! Markers for coloring, Glimmer Mist in Irredescent Gold.

Layers of Color Blessings

wild-grass-with-flower-soft

Here is a look at one of the amazing new Layers of Color frame cling art stamps, called Wild Grasses. This frame is made to coordinate with Spellbinder's Label sixteen and what a lovely statement it makes!!! We're so excited that Layers of Color is a Spellbinder's Preferred Company and we look forward to what will come in the future through this relationship!

My base is Bazzill Bling and the designer paper is Pink Paisley 365*. I cut the Wrought Iron border with a Martha Stewart around the page punch and used it to mat my focal image which is stamped in black on GPW and then highlighted with Twinkling H2Os. I used Wild Vine, Sunburst and French Vanilla and painted them on in layers to give sparkle and depth to the gorgeous wild grasses. The sentiment is computer generated and the entire panel is sponged with Old Olive. I surrounded the inner panel with Spring Mix Flower Soft. I was going for that field of wild flowers look. LOL! May Arts silk ribbon finishes it off along with 3 little Hero Arts Pearls. I hope you like it. Think of the many uses for this really unique and cool stamp! Laura really outdid herself in drawing this stamp. I can't wait to try it on a layout!!!

I'm entering this in the following challenges:
One stitch at a time - embellish it (flower soft and bling)

My Time With Randi's Song : Shadow Box Wall Art

Hello blogging friends! Today it's my turn to present the "Time With" blog post on the Our Daily Bread designs Blog, and I am sharing a project that I made using this month's release from Our Daily Bread designs, Randi's Song. If you have not read the story of how this set got it's name, please see this post. It will touch your heart! Anyway... on to my project.
I bought two of these shadowbox frames at Tuesday Morning last week and I wish I had gotten more! I had more fun altering it!

This is what the frame looked like when I started

I began by applying some yummy green flocked dp to the inside of the frame. It's so rich! It and the dp on the outside of the frame are from "Me and My Big Ideas - Harvest" 12 x 12 pad.

I then painted the sides and all edges of the frame with Adirondack Espresso Paint.

Once the paint was dry I adhered the dp to the front of the frame. I used a craft blade to cut out the inside opening. I found the corners first, marked them, cut an "X" and then used the blade to follow right along the edge. After trimming the center square of dp, I turned the frame over and trimmed any excess off the front from the back side, using the edges as my guide.

Once the frame itself was covered with designer paper and/or paint, I started to work on all my components.

The first thing I did was make three different designed papers with Adirondack Alcohol Inks. I was inspired by the beautiful job Julie did for our blog hop using alcohol inks and decided to use them for my leaves. So I made three sheets using different combinations of Sunshine Yellow, Meadow, Sunset Orange, Cranberry, and Butterscotch. I used Gold Mixative for all three and then used blending solution, all on glossy card stock. I then stamped the large leaf stamp from Randi's Song, with Black Stazon Ink and then cut out. I used a fine mister to lightly wet the back of the leaves. I did not scrunch them up like I would on regular card stock because with the glossy coating I didn't want it to separate. Instead, when the paper was wet enough to fold easily, I started just molding it, using the vein lines as center points for most of the folds, then just molded the leaves until I liked the way they looked. I then dried them with my heat tool. They dried very stiff.

In the photo below, you see my frame is ready to decorate and I have added a square of foam to the inside. This is where my sentiment will be placed popped up for dimension.

I stamped the words to the hymn, "Great is Thy Faithfulness" with Versfine Onyx Black on Papertrey Vintage Cream, cut it with my Spellbinders Classic Square die small and matted with a piece of the alcohol inked paper I had created, then one mat of Bazzill. I used thick foam to pop the whole panel up off the backing of the shadowbox.
Now for the fun part. I decided to add a few pretty gold filagree leaves from a Recollections pack as backing for my leaves. I then arranged the leaves and adhered with a hot glue gun. The bow is made of gold sheer May Arts ribbon. I have decided to make several of these as gifts if I can find more of these shadowbox frames! It was a fun project... a little time consuming, but well worth it! I hope you enjoyed my project and that it might inspire you to try something other than a card with your new stamps!.
Here is a close up of the leaves and how dimensional they are after being molded while wet.

Moxie Fab Languish in Luxury Tues. Trigger

Hello everyone! Today I'm just playing around with the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger Challenge. I don't always take inspiration challenges to such a literal interpretation but this time I just had to try.
"Languish in Luxury Trigger"
So I used this digi chair image of Nina Brackett's from Squigglfly. The sentiment also is in this set as well as pillows and several different patterns for the chair! How cool is that! I also used a digi image for the orchid that I got from A Passion for Stamps. Then I went about trying to capture the feel of this "Languish in Luxury" trigger photo. I of course was in love with the colors! Capturing the feel of the wallpaper was easy with this Tim Holtz Vintage Shabby designer paper. I printed the chair out on BasicGrey Periphery to give it some pattern and interest, since I didn't have anything with the sheen of the inspiration chair. The floor was done with Bazzill Bling, which IRL has a sheen to it. I scored it across once for the base board and then "tiled" the rest for the floor, though I'm not sure the photo shows that. The table is made by hand drawing and cutting the cube from Papertrey Dark Chocolate CS and then rubbing SU! Craft white ink pad over it for the streaks and reflections, then I shadowed with a Stazon Saddle Brown Ink pad. I scored the angles of the table with my Score Buddy and then heat embossed with UTEE to get the shine. The orchid was printed twice so I could pop up some of the flowers. I colored with Copics and cut off the bottom of the vase to make the little candy dish, then heat embossed them with UTEE as well. I printed the pillow off twice to get the color of the chair but to get the flowers and cording on white paper, then colored with Copics, cut out and added to the blue pillow. I loved this sentiment from Nina's set so I framed it and hung it on the wall. This was purely for fun and it was fun challenging myself to find ways to use what I had to achieve the look of the photo. So what do you think... did I capture the essence of the trigger?

I am entering this into the following challenges:
Pollycraft - Anything Goes
For Fun - Something I've never used before (either digi, the dp, made my own cube)
Little Red Wagon - Something Old and Something New (almost all new but Bazzill Bling is old)

Even when we can't find the words...

It is time for ODBD Stamping In Time Challenge(SNTODBD20)! The assignment is Our Daily Bread Design stamps. The challenge is to use embossing powders. Embossing powders have become more sophisticated over the years. We have regular embossing powders, super fine powders, and tinsels powders to name a few styles not to mention all the fabulous color choices. Pick your color and your style. Be sure to tell us which embossing powder style you chose! We would love to see what you create using ODBD stamps!

I used this month's newest Our Daily Bread designs release in the Full of Grace Series, Pray. This sentiment is just wonderful and I can think of so many times it could be used! Have you ever been to that place where you just couldn't pray, or maybe didn't know how to pray? Perhaps you've battled with confusion or inability to focus, wandering thoughts or just plain didn't know what to pray for. The Bible tells us in Romans 8:26 "In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words". Isn't that a comforting thought!

I heat embossed it with SU! Black embossing powder. I also heat embossed the dry embossed design of my frame, and for that I used Stampendous Detail White embossing powder. It makes a great statement on the basic black card stock. The praying hands image is Our Daily Bread designs "Lift up our Hands" set, stamped with Versafine and cut out.

I also made this for this week's Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge 75, and for Pile It On Challenge to use 4 or more embossing folders. That was a challenge but I did it!

Card Details:
Stamps: ODBD Full of Grace Series Pray, and Lift Up Our Hands
Card Stock: Basic Black, Gina K Pure Luxury 80 lb white, Making Memories Black Tie DP
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, SU! Craft White, VersaMark
Accessories: Spellbinder's Frames, cut and then dry embossed, then heat embossed
Cuttlebug folders Scrollwork, Ornamental Iron, Cassies Brocade
Pearls - Queen B, Ribbon - Michael's

Thank You!

Happy Sunday everyone! It's time for another Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge! This week our challenge hostess is sweet Patti! She has chosen 1 Timothy 4:4 for today's Scripture.

"For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving."

Patti's challenge is to create a Thank You card.

I decided to step outside of my comfort zone this week and create a clean and simple design. I'm not comfortable with my CAS cards but this one has a certain country charm I am liking. I used Layers Of Color Garden Borders Clear Art Stamp Set which I stamped in my Kaleidacolor Autumn Leaves Spectrum pad onto white card stock, and then sponged with THoltz Scattered Straw Distress Ink. I mounted that onto an EK Success Punched edge. The sentiment is Our Daily Bread designs Give Thanks. I stamped that on a scrap of So Saffron and cut with my Mega Oval Spellbinders, matted with a scalloped mega oval cut from Papertrey Dark Chocolate. The designer paper is K&Co, and the base is SU! Kraft. I added a few strands of raffia and sewed a button onto the bow. Quick, easy but gets the job done! LOL!

This week I have my Grandkids staying with me and we are having lots of fun, but my time is limited so my card making time is limited, and my post writing time is limited! I bet you can tell because I'm going to be brief in my post today! LOL! I hope you like my clean and simple card this week!

Our sponsor this week is Doodle Pantry and they are giving $10.00 worth of digis from the store! Thanks Laurie!

We'd love to have you play along! If you do, please leave a direct link to your card on the SSIC Blog and please link the challenge in your post!

Happy Birthday Kelley!

Happy Birthday Kelley!

The Sticks in the Bread basket have gotten together a little blog hop for Kelley showing her some cards that are coming her way real soon! I recently had the privilege of visiting Kelley at the Our Daily Bread designs booth at the Anderson, SC Heirloom Stamp Show. While we were admiring the booth, she mentioned that some of the sample cards were starting to look faded and could use some updating. Well Kelley's wish is my command and on the way home I started planning.... and since her birthday is today, this is what we came up with!

So.... Kelley, here is the card I made for you with this "I Wait for the Lord" set. It's my first time playing with the set but I hope it will look bright and shiny on your display boards because it's really a great set! The base is Bazzill, the dp is BasicGrey Jovial and the Paper Studio Gold textured dp. I used Spellbinders Lacey Circles, Nellie's Scalloped Rectangles, laced sparkly green ribbon through the Nellies Frame, and added gold beads and diamond glaze to the candles. The image is colored with Copics and highlighted with a Sharpie White Paint Pen. Next time I'll use the colors of the Advent Wreath Candles, but this time I wanted them neutral. Hope you like it! Seems funny making a Christmas Card for your birthday... but LOL.... this was what I thought you'd like.

From here, please hop to Sandee, Randi and Connie!

Happy Birthday Kelley!!! May God richly bless you in the year ahead!!! We luv ya!!!

Sweet Friend

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend!

Today I decided to just play. A sweet friend, Dawn gave me this gorgeous Flourishes set a couple weeks ago and I wanted to try my hand at it. I decided it would work for the Midnight Madness Sketch this week, so used that as my starting point. I can't say I'm thrilled with my first attempt at coloring this because I don't have all the right Copics to give it a little green or yellow contrast, so I used Prisma Pencils but the pic isn't showing all the highlighting that is there. I love this set and just wanted to thank her for it! Now I need lessons in how to color it! LOL!

I used a Bazzill base, BasicGrey dp (Indian Summer) and Gina K Pure Luxury layering weight white, and stamped the image on X-ress-it. LOVE that paper! I embossed with Cassie's Brocade CB EF. I added some stickles to the flowers and some May Arts twine. I cut a section of another stamped image out and added that to the tag. I did a little paper piercing around the edges. This is a big image so there was not a lot of room for anything else! LOL!

I am entering this in the following challenges:
Incy Wincy - Glitter/Stickles
Polycraft Monday Challenge - Anything Goes
Stamps R Us Challenge - All Nature
Creative Card Crew - Bloomin' Marvelous
Tuesday Throwdown - Punches (My tag is a punch even though you can't see the top!)
