Piece or Peace?

Lttle-Frieda-six-for-you

Hello everyone! Happy Sunday! With Sunday comes another Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge! This week, Lisa is our hostess, and for this week's Scripture, she has chosen Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." This is one of my favorite verses! I have to be reminded often not to be anxious. I am learning... that with fervent prayer, that anxiety can be turned over to the God who loves me and wants only the best for me. I can truly attest to the truth of this verse because I have felt that peace that transcends all understanding. I have been in life threatening situations, and felt that peace... what's the worst that can happen to me? I die? Well... for the Christian, that is not something to be feared! In fact... being in the presence of my Savior will be more wonderful than anything I've ever experienced on earth! This verse assures me that this peace will guard my heart and my mind! Yes, anxiety does come sometimes, but when I'm really leaving it at His feet... He gives me peace and helps me keep my mind from dwelling on destructive thoughts, anxieties and fears.

The challenge is a fun one!
A different kind of peace... piece... as in paper piecing. Use paper piecing in the main image of your card/project.

Since Lisa opened her own on line crafting store this week... I decided to use this adorable little image that is made exclusively for Lisa's Store, The Craft's Meow. This is little Frieda and the set is called Little Frieda's Flowers. Isn't she adorable? Since my granddaughter is about to have a birthday, I made this in lavenders and greens for her. Unfortunately lavenders do NOT photograph well! All these lavenders really match beautifully in real life! I paper pieced Frieda's top and her shoes with a Papertrey dp scrap and then shaded it a bit with a Copic marker. I decided that since Frieda is out picking flowers, she should wear leggings so I colored her that way. (She could just as easily be colored with a dress and socks). My papers are a variety of things from my stash. The base is Bazzill. The background green is Martha Stewart. The lavender oval is Heidi Grace, and the front two layers are Kaisercraft Lilac Ave. I used a Craft Two embossing folder for the pretty butterflies. The flowers and buttons are from my stash, and the ribbon is from Really Reasonable Ribbon. I added Stickles to her flowers, though you can't see the sparkle in this light. The sketch I used is from Cute Card Thursday.

Hello everyone! It is time for ODBD Stamping In Time Challenge(SNTODBD31)! The assignment is to use Our Daily Bread Design stamps. The challenge this time is all about "NEW to You"! This means you can try out a technique or product that is NEW to you. You can use something new like your ODBD stamps, papers, embellishments that you may have had and not used yet or just got in the mail. We look forward to seeing what you create using ODBD stamps! Remember, the more you play the more you increase your chance to win! This challenge will run from Thurs. Mar. 24 til Wed. April 7. Be sure to use SNTODBD31 keyword when uploading to SCS or other galleries, and link your card to the Stamping in Time Post on the ODBD blog.

My card uses the new Anniversary sets Scripture Collection 7, and Fancy Labels, as well as Spellbinders Label Seventeen. My base is Bazzill. The designer paper is Prima Botanical pack. (LOVE this new pack)! I used Gina K Pure Luxury Ivory for my sentiment. To stamp the fancy label in two colors, I used SU! Soft Sky (using the pad on the stamp, careful not to touch the verse). Then I used a VersaColor Khaki tear drop and just inked the verse. I then clear embossed the verse so it pops out from the rest. I sponged Khake and Adirondak Latte around the edges. I used a Cuttlebug Textile folder for my panels, then sponged lightly with Latte. The bow is made with May Arts silk ribbon. I added a QuicKutz flourish and MS leaves, boughs and Prima flowers. The lace was a gift from a sweet friend (thanks again my friend!).

For more inspiration... please visit my DT sisters who made samples today:

I hope you'll play along! With two weeks to play... I'm sure everyone can use something NEW! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

The Craft's Meow Grand Opening!

Little-Frieda-Smile

Hello blogging friends! I'm so excited to be sharing this card with you today, as it is for the Grand Opening of my dear DT sister, Lisa Hjulberg's Store.... the Craft's Meow! This has been a dream of Lisa's for a long time and it is finally coming to fruition! Be sure to visit the Craft's Meow Blog for lots of fun!

This adorable little image is made exclusively for the Craft's Meow. This sweet little girl is Little Frieda, and the name of this stamp set is Little Frieda's Daisy. Isn't she adorable? Lisa named this stamp after her Mom! You can read all about it on the blog!

I paper pieced her dress and hat band with my new Prima dp, Sparkling Spring. I used my Grand Calibur to cut the Grand Scalloped Square (#3) and the Grande Square. I also cut the Lacey Circles (largest) in the same pass with the grand scalloped square! Gotta love that big platform! My pink matting is Papertrey Sweet Blush, and the Blue mat is a scrap of Soft Sky (SU!). The ribbon is Martha Stewart and the flowers are ZVA Creative. The little tag has one of the sentiments in this sweet set stamped on it with Memento Ink. I adhered my scalloped square to a white base which allowed me to not have to cut off any of the pattern for the top fold.

You really need to hop on over to Lisa's new store, The Craft's Meow and check out the great things she has there!

I am entering this into the following challenges: Catch The Bug - Baby/Child, Really Reasonable Ribbon - must include ribbon, Send a Smile for Kids - Anything Goes, Sugar Creek Hollow - Anything Goes, Fashionista Friday - aquamarine, Stamp Something - something sweet, C.R.A.F.T. - Paper Piecing, Charisma Cardz – Use Die Cuts, Digi Doodle Shop's Best - Anything Goes, Paper Play - Embossing, Shelly's Images - Show us What you Got, Southern Girls - Use Flowers, Stamping Vacation - N - Nestabilities, Gingerloft - Die Cuts or Punches, Let's Ink It Up - Die Cuts or Punches, Paper Sundaes -Embossing

Assurance of what's not seen

Close-the-door-closed

Hello everyone! It's Sunday and time for another Stampin Sisters in Christ challenge! This week I am the hostess and I have chosen Matt. 6:6 for this week's Scripture.

"But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you."

My challenge to you is to make a card or project that has something hidden from first view. It could be many things! It could be an envelope, a pull out, doors that open to reveal something, a Joy Fold, a Flip Flop or swing card, a Magic card, Slider or triple slider, explosion box...anything that has something you don't see at first glance. I hope this doesn't seem too hard for you to play along. When you think about it... almost anything can have something hidden from first view... even if you just have a sentiment inside. I hope you'll get creative and play along!

I wrote a devotional which is posted on the Stampin Sisters in Christ blog so I won't copy it here, but I do hope you will stop by there and read it.

EDIT: Well it seems that SSIC is having some technical difficulties and cannot post my devotional so I WILL put it here! LOL! Sorry for the length of this post now, but here it is:

Have you ever been with someone whose motive is to impress everyone with THEIR achievements, abilities, etc. How do you react to someone like that? For the most part, most of us are not impressed at all! We see that person for who they really are… self indulgent, prideful and not at all interested in anyone but themselves. They are generally not interested in relationships… only self promotion.

Well this is exactly what many of us do to the Lord. Sometimes I think we “play” Christianity. We love to talk the talk, but that doesn’t mean we are walking the walk! Somehow… we are more concerned with making other people think we’re great Christians than we are about really loving the Savior and walking in close relationship with Him, and doing the things that please Him.

Imagine a relationship that doesn’t include some deep intimate conversation! Imagine how your spouse or child would feel if the only conversation you ever had with them involved lists of requests or demands…. No times of sitting and listening to what THEY want to tell you… no times of praising them for jobs well done or just telling them that you love them! Needless to say… there wouldn’t really be much relationship! How can we expect it to be any different with our Lord? ANY relationship needs personal communion with each other… a time that’s special just between the two of you!

Prayer is one of the most intimate times we can spend with our Savior. I think the reason it is mentioned here in Matt. 6 in conjunction with the warning to not practice our “righteousness” for the praise of men, is that we basically tend to pray in public differently than we do in private. Our prayers may be heartfelt, but the tendency is often to be talking for the benefit of others in the room as much as to our Savior. While God is not saying not to pray in public, what He wants first and foremost from us is for us to have intentional personal time dedicated to talking to Him…. and listening to Him. I think the reference to the inner room and closing the door is that we are to shut out all distractions, for our minds easily wander. God sees our hearts and hears our heart’s cry. He wants our hearts to be centered on Him…. loving Him, praising Him, seeking His will, seeking His forgiveness, yielding our wills Him, and trusting Him to meet our needs. “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much”. (James 5:16) Let’s press on for this reward!

Close-the-Door

For my card I used Our Daily Bread designs "Ask, Seek Knock" set for my door image, and the newly released Scripture Collection 7 for my Scripture which is behind the door. The dp is 7 Gypsies Savannah, The Paper Co. and K&Co. The base is Papertrey Dark Chocolate. I used THoltz Distress Ink to sponge distress. I stamped with Archival Ink and water colored the door. To get the inside of the door to be oriented right with the hinges on the right side, I stamped the door image onto plain rubber, then stamped that onto my cs and colored it to match the front. I added a little bronze lockset and key. I also added Ultra Fine Flower Soft in Sage and sewing. My sewing machine tension was messed up but I decided to go with it... it kind of adds to the aged look. If you ever have that happen, just pull the treads and the nice even holes will be perfect paper piercing!

Our Sponsor this week is Our Daily Bread designs!
The prize is a $15.00 Gift Certificate toward stamps
We want to thank Kelley for her continued support of Stampin Sisters in Christ!

Treasures from the heart

Treasured-birth2

Hello everyone! It's Sunday and time for another Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge! Today our hostess is the very lovely Linda! The Scripture she has chosen this week is

Mat 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. "

Linda's challenge is:
Use something you treasure on your card - whether it be bling, flowers, something new or have been saving for a long time - show us your treasures!

The two verses before vs. 21 tell us not to store up for ourselves treasures on earth, fo(r they will all be gone one day)... but rather to store up treasures in heaven, (for those things have eternal value).

Our time here is so short, yet we strive to hold on to all the "stuff" of this life with all our strength. We work longer hours so we can buy more, have more, and then we need to spend more time taking care of all the stuff we have accumulated. When we look at life through spiritual eyes, we realize that we came into this world with no "things" and we will leave this life with no "things"... and the only time spent during this life that will matter for anything in eternity is that time spent doing God's work... whatever He wants us to be doing. We need to be about His kingdom and doing things that will matter for eternity. If we're not sure whether we are doing that or not... this verse tells us.... where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. If you find yourself totally wrapped up in this world, the things of this world, and find little time for God or doing things that bring honor and glory to Him, chances are your treasures are here on earth... and they are temporal. I don't know about you, but I really want to hear Him say "Well done, good and faithful servant". I know I fail often in this area... but it certainly is the desire of my heart to make a difference that will last for eternity.

I have used Layers of Color Flutterescent Clear Art Stamp set and Our Daily Bread designs Happy Birthday set for this card. The butterfly is stamped with Color Box Paintbox Pigment Variated Pad, and then sprayed with Pearl Glimmer Mist and distressed with T Holtz Walnut Stain Ink. The Birthday sentiment was stamped with Groovy Guava (SU!) directly on the panel. I embossed the upper part of the panel with a Cuttlebug folder (sorry I can't remember the name) which I had inked with Groovy Guava. I wrapped my ribbon around and adhered my main panel to the SU! Very Vanilla base.

My treasured item is the pretty crocheted element saved from a dear loved one's sewing box. It actually looks like the old shade pulls they used to make with solid plastic rings inside, but she had started to attach them together to make perhaps a dresser scarf or something. There is a cluster of about 10 of these. I carefully disassembled it and used one on my card today. I treasure it because of the loving hands that created it tenderly many years ago.

My leaves and boughs are punched with Martha Stewart punches. For the leaves I used my embossing stylus to create veins and then sponged distress ink on the edges. I made the ribbon rose after watching a YouTube Video and I love how it came out. It is made from the same ribbon I wrapped around the card. The amount of ribbon it takes depends on the size you make your rose. I made several small ones, and then this one was the largest I made. I think I used about 22" for this one.

Tuesday Trigger and more...

Hello friends! Today I'm sharing a card I made for this week's Tuesday Trigger over on Moxie Fab World. We were to take inspiration from this Oh So Lovely photo:

Doesn't that just give you the warm fuzzies? I love this pic! Anyway... I also wanted to play in this week's challenge over at Joan's Gardens, and that challenge was to use blue, orange, a spring theme, a die cut and a circle. My circle is actually my hand made organza rose, which was my first attempt at these so go easy on me! :) I cut several circles of organza in bright pink, light pink and an orange/gold color. I used a candle to seal the edges and that causes the organza to curl up and it's amazing how you can start with a circle and end up with what really look like petals! I also used a big button from my stash that I have been hoarding. It is clear but half of it is orange and half is colorless. I really liked how it played with the orange tones in the card stock and flower. The ribbon is recycled from a gift I had received quite a while ago. I knew some day I'd use it!

I also incorporated some pink so I could play along with the Play Date Cafe Color challenge, which is orange, pink and blue. The photo there had two shades of blue and I went with the lighter.

My dp is from a treasured pack of Prima- Annalee. The sentiment is from Gina K (It's a Nina Brackett set called Fanciful Tags). I stamped it with Adirondak Latte and I used a Spellbinders Fancy Tag to cut it out. The base is Gina K leather. The punched edge is cut with a T Holtz die (Sizzix) and I used a scrap of MS cs for that. I meant to sew on this and totally forgot! LOL! Oh my...

I am also entering this into the following challenges:
Aud Sentiments Challenge - Birthday card, gift packaging or gifts

The Rubber Cafe - Favourite Die (love the fancy tag by Spellbinders!)

Tulips in the Window

Hello friends!
Today I have a quick card to share. I made this for several challenges, including the Shabby Tearoom Challenge which was to take inspiration from this photo:
Classic Elegance!

Design a card or project using RED, WHITE (OR CREAM) AND BLACK!

I drew my inspiration from the colors and also the checked patterns. What a pretty kitchen!

I used this month's release from Our Daily Bread designs, Tulip Corner and stamped with Memento ink, and colored with Copics (R14,24,29 &46) and G99, 94 and 82). My card stock is Flourishes. It's very white and I love it! I used Spellbinders Label Thirteen in two largest sizes to create my frame from Basic Black. I used a Sizzix embossing folder (sorry I don't know the name). The ribbon was from my stash. I attempted this week's Double Embossing technique on SCS but failed so my center panel is cut out. I lightly colored the bg with B000 to pop my colors a bit. I also used today's IC274 on SCS.

I also incorporated the following challenges:
Alphabet Challenge - "R" is for ribbons, Delicious Doodles - make the card/project YOU would like to receive, Simply Create - power of flowers, Stampin For The Weekend - Spring, Craft Us Crazy - anything that reminds you of nature, Cute Card Thursday - signs of Spring, Delightful Challenges - welcome Spring, Do You Stack Up? - use anything with green in it, Stamp Insanity - lots of texture, Fab 'n' Funky - spring, Scrapbook Sisters - Spring, Oldie But Goodie Challenge -Spring is in the Air, Paper Take Weekly - Anything goes, Try It On Tuesday - Inspired by a song (Tip Toe through the Tulips... hipie days!), Bunny Zoe's Crafts - Spring - flowers Everywhere!, Crazy Challenge - Here comes spring, Incy Wincy Designs - spring is in the air, Lexi's Creations - Flowers,

Rise and Shine Challenge

I made this for several challenges. Angie over on Christian Papercrafts Magazine is challenging us to a rise/shine theme. For the rise part I chose this new stamp set from Our Daily Bread designs called He Will Rise. I used the sketch from Sunday Sketch & Stamp . I used my Spellbinder's Grand Calibur to cut my circles (Spellbinders Standard Circles Small) and the inner square (Spellbinders Classic Squares Small). I love cutting more than one shape at a time with the Grand Calibur... something I never could do with any other machine. I stamped the image with Memento ink and colored with Copics. I then airbrushed the various layers. I popped up each layer on thin foam dots. I pierced around the frame, and added brads, thinking of the nails that pierced the Savior's hands and feet. For the punched element of the sketch I used my MS Pine Bough punch, because I thought it looked a bit like the thorns of the crown they placed upon His head. My base is Papertrey Dark Chocolate, the matting is SU! Pear Pizzazz.

I also incorporated the following challenges:
Critter Sketch - use a sentiment Dream Valley Challenges - anything goes I Did It Creations - Punches or Dies Sentimental Sundays - Anything goes but with a sentiment
Sparkles Forum - Pink, Brown and Blue Stamptacular Sunday - You've been framed
Try It On Tuesday - Inspired by a song Hymn- The Old Rugged Cross) Paper Take Weekly - Anything goes The Paper Variety - green Penny's Paper-Crafty - green For Fun Challenges - purple, green, yellow Southern Girls - Brads, gems or dewdrops Do You Stack Up? - use anything with green in it

Springtime Birthday Blessings

Hello friends!
Tonight I have a Birthday Card that I made today. I used Our Daily Bread designs' Happy Birthday set for the sentiment, and the new release stamp set, Eternity for the frame, along with the Custom Die Cut made exclusively for ODBD by Spellbinders, Label 1. I also used the Magnolia image by Just Inklined that was included in the Help for Katie digis given as a gift for all who donated to help fellow stamper Katie Renz. While that particular drive is over, you can still help dear Katie out as she battles stage 4 stomach cancer HERE.

I used this week's sketch from BasicGrey Challenges turned on it's side for my layout. The base is Papertrey and the designer paper is BasicGrey Curio. The die cut and matching frame stamp are from ODBD (Eternity Set, just released Mar. 1). I stamped in Memento Rich Cocoa and sponged with THoltz Antique Linen all over the vanilla cs. I sponged the edges with Memento. I printed out the Magnolia image on Georgia Pacific White and colored with Copics, then cut out and sponged the edges with Memento to antique it a bit. I popped up the label and flower. I dyed the seam binding using Alcohol Inks in Shell Pink, Terra Cotta and Caramel, along with some Blending Solution. I used 2 CB folders for the texture and sponged them as well. I added some pretty lace that was a gift from my sweet friend Sabrina. The pearls are ZVA Creative, the charm is from my stash.

This is also for the following challenges:
