Happy Birthday Single Layer!

Hello everyone!  Today I'm joining the Challenge Team over at the Shining the Light challenge on the ODBD Blog!

This week's challenge is:  Create a One Layer card!!  This is one layer as in one piece of card stock or one layer on a base (this includes die cuts).

To make the challenge even more fun, we will be giving out a prize, $15 gift certificate to be used toward stamps at the Our Daily Bread Designs store!! Entries for thprize must be submitted by Sunday, September 8 at 8 p.m. EST. One random winner will be chosen and announced next challenge. In order to win this prize, you do not need to use ODBD stamps, but if you have them, we would love to see them!!

As a way of recognizing those who do use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, we will again be choosing three or more of our participants  for the  Shining the Light Award . In order to qualify for this award, however, you must  have your submission added to Mr. Linky by Sunday,  September 8 at 8 p.m. EST. If you upload your creations to Splitcoast Stampers or any other online gallery, please use the keyword  ODBDSLC169.  When creating your posts on blogs please include a link to the challenge.

I thought I would have a very hard time doing a single layer card but this one  was fun!  I used the split image technique from SCS and this is what I came up with.  I used the butterfly image from the ODBD Faith set, and the sentiment from Happy Birthday.

I am trying to restock the card rack at church and it seems I have a big need for certain categories more than others, and this is one of them, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to make an easily mailed birthday card.  The technique is a lot of fun.  You draw two lines in which your desired sentiment will fit, using a marker or score line, or something to delineate it.    Then you take a mask and place it over the lower line, and stamp the chosen image so it comes up to that lower line but it won't go beyond it because of the mask.  Then you move the mask to the upper line, masking off the sentiment panel below, and stamp the image again.  You now have a split image, with a sentiment space going through it.  Simply stamp your sentiment and you are done!  Easy as pie!  I will definitely be using this one again soon!

For more inspiration, please be sure to stop by all the other challenge team's posts!
